A Smarter Future With Smart Home Technology

The adoption of smart home technology is becoming more prominent than ever in American homes. 69% of American households currently own a smart device, and this is projected to grow as Millennials and Gen Z increasingly become homeowners in the near future. 80% of Millennials and Generation Z say adopting smart home technology is a positive, compared to 69% of Baby Boomers. These young buyers are especially drawn to the convenience and security that smart devices can provide.

There are dozens of different devices, machines, and applications that are available to homeowners on the market. Some of the most popular smart devices in the United States are entertainment devices (45%), security devices (33%), and usage monitoring devices (21%). Within these categories, audio video devices, speakers, and smoke detectors are the most popular devices. These devices can be found in almost every room of a modern household, from bedrooms to kitchens to even the bathroom!

There is a bright future for smart device technology. Devices will become more streamlined, have faster operating speeds, and even greater privacy protections.

There is also likely to be mechanical innovations that introduce touchless abilities for the devices, such as voice-operated software. Prices are also expected to decrease as smart technology becomes cheaper to replicate, so a greater percentage of the population will have access.
