1. WeMo

The WeMo app is available on iOS and Android devices, and it allows you to control all of your WeMos from anywhere and at any time.

The app pairs with the WeMo Light Switch, Mini, Switch and Insight. It also pairs with Google Home or Amazon Echo. Using this one simple app, you can control your lights and appliances.

It also works with Nest to sync home and away modes. Nest will “tell” your WeMo devices that you’re away, so your fan can shut off automatically to save you more energy.

WeMo’s app also pairs with IFTTT to give you the ultimate control over your smart devices.

2. Ninja Blocks

Ninja Blocks falls into the Internet of Things category. These tiny cloud-enabled computers receive input from sensors and react accordingly.

The Ninja Rules Engine allows you to make your own app that controls your home’s behavior – no programming knowledge required.

3. Nest

The Nest app pairs with your Nest smart thermostat, but it also pairs with other devices, like:

  • Google Home and Google Home Mini
  • Nest x Yale Lock
  • Fitbit
  • LIFX lights
  • MyQ Smart Garage Hub
  • Philips hue
  • Shopify Store Cam
  • Lutron Caseta
  • Kasa lights

Of course, you can also buy Nest Cams for home security and control these through the app. The app is free to download.

4. ADT Pulse

With the ADT Pulse app, which is free and compatible with iOS and Android, you can manage and protect your home.

Remotely arm and disarm your security system, and receive alerts and emails when things happen while you’re away, like a water leak. Being alerted to home emergencies means you can call a plumber or the fire department right away – before the situation gets out of hand.

The Pulse app also connects to smart thermostats, so you can control your home’s temperature while you’re away. You can even manage door locks and lights with the touch of a button.

Although the app is free, you’ll need to pay for the service and hardware as well as an activation and monthly fee.

5. Loxone Smart Home

The Luxone companion app allows you to control a suite of your most important home controls, including security, climate, shading, entertainment and even your pool and irrigation systems.

The app connects with your individual devices and allows them to work together without any modification. From motion detectors to door sensors and lights, you’ll be able to control multiple smart devices from one control panel.

6. Control4 MyHome

The Control4 MyHome service allows you to control your entire smart home. The app itself is free, but you’ll have to pay a yearly fee to use it.

The service provides a secure 3G/4G connection to your home’s security, lighting, comfort, energy and entertainment systems. Control4 goes beyond simple controls, allowing you to shut down a video game console if your child is playing instead of doing her homework.
